Orion unveils LED platform for freezers
Orion Energy Systems is expanding its lighting technology products with the launch of its first LED lighting system.
The Manitowoc clean-tech firm said Wednesday it has introduced an LED platform after two years of research and development with collaboration from LED component providers.
Orion said its LED light, designed for use in commercial freezers, has outperformed competing technology in tests done at customer freezer facilities in New York and Illinois.
"The market continues to be fascinated by LED technology," said Neal Verfuerth, Orion chief executive.
Though its research found LED is a good option for freezers, Orion said its main lighting technology -- high-intensity discharge -- is still a more cost-effective choice for buildings in which the temperature is above 32 degrees. Orion's lighting fixtures are often found in distribution centers, factories and other large commercial buildings.
